Evaluating Student Achievement through Testing and Writing

As a result of attending this workshop, faculty attendees will be able to:

  • Create assessment tools in relationship to established learning outcomes.
  • Identify and apply a wide variety of assessment strategies to most effectively facilitate student learning.
  • Create assessment tools that address higher order thinking skills as identified in Bloom's Cognitive Taxonomy.
  • Integrate test analysis and correction as part of the student learning process.
  • Create and use rubrics to guide assessment of qualitative, subjective, critical thinking assignments, e.g. essays, opinion papers, reflections.
  • Utilize formative and summative assessments as well as "alternative assessments" to more effectively address different learning styles.
