Using a Mentoring Program

Course Description

Through discussion, individual work, and group interaction, participants will explore the benefits, goals and objectives of an employee mentoring program, including its role in performance improvement and career development. While informal mentoring is often the norm, intentionally designed mentoring programs can reap benefits for the individuals involved, as well as for their institution. Opportunities for developing a mentoring program in your institution will be investigated, as well as examples from other institutions.

Objectives

After receiving this training, the participants will be able to:

  • Identify the benefits of mentoring
  • Understand the roles, responsibilities and qualities of mentors and protégés
  • Identify positive characteristics for a mentor/protégé
  • Build productive mentoring relationships and keep them on track
  • Develop a plan to create or improve a mentoring program
